Shortlisted bidders announced in tender for public transport ticketing services

Added: 17 June 2015

Public Transport Victoria (PTV) today announced that following an Expression of Interest process, three bidders have been shortlisted for the services contract of Victoria’s smartcard ticketing system – myki.

Accenture Australia Pty Ltd, Cubic Transportation Systems (Australia) Pty Ltd and NTT Data Victorian Ticketing System Pty Ltd, have been selected to continue to the next stage of the tender process, being a Request for Tender.

PTV CEO, Mark Wild, said the Expression of Interest process delivered an extremely high standard of responses from the market.

“The Expression of Interest process has provided PTV an opportunity to access the best expertise in the market,” Mr Wild said.

“Through the competitive tender process we’ve shortlisted bidders who we believe have the necessary experience, expertise, capabilities and resources to both run the system and address current and emerging challenges.

“While our main focus is the continuity of ticketing services, the chosen vendor must have the capability to identify and map pathways to deliver future technologies that support service improvements.”

myki is one of the largest smartcard ticketing systems in the world, operating across multiple modes of transport in metropolitan and regional areas.

The system is made up of more than 25,000 devices installed on train stations, trams and buses and processes more than 1 million transactions per day.

Given the impending expiry of the current contract, the State is seeking an experienced operator to run the existing system and deliver maximum value for money for Victorian taxpayers.

They will have the experience to deliver best practice services, and the capability to partner with PTV to identify and implement ongoing improvements for customers.

An Expression of Interest was launched for the services contract in February this year. Shortlisted parties will be invited to submit a formal tender later this year.

The tender process is expected to be complete in mid-2016, with the successful respondent to commence their contract at the start of 2017.
