Airport buses

Several airport bus services connect the suburbs to both Melbourne and Avalon Airports.

Melbourne Airport

SkyBus

SkyBus runs express between Melbourne Airport and Melbourne's city centre, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The service takes approximately 20 minutes to get from the airport to the city centre. Buses run every 10 minutes from 6am to 11pm and every 15 to 30 minutes at other times.

At Melbourne Airport, SkyBus stops at Terminal 3 (Virgin) and Terminal 1 (Qantas).

In the city, SkyBus stops at Southern Cross Station, near the corner of Bourke and Spencer streets. The SkyBus Hotel Transfer Service can transport you between Southern Cross Station and select city accommodation at no additional charge (Monday to Friday 6am – 10.30pm, Saturday and Sunday 7.30am – 5.30pm).

SkyBus is not a myki ticketed service. To travel with SkyBus, you must buy a SkyBus ticket. You can buy SkyBus tickets online at skybus.com.au (link opens in new window) or at a SkyBus ticket booth before you board the bus at the airport and Southern Cross Station. V/Line tickets, free travel passes and concessions are not accepted by SkyBus.

Routes 478, 479 and 482

Routes 478, 479 and 482 provide bus services from Melbourne Airport to Airport West and Sunbury. Services direct to Melbourne Airport pick-up daily from some railway stations and from Melbourne.

At Melbourne Airport, all routes depart from the stop outside Terminal 1. The stop is also serviced by Route 901 SmartBus.

  Route 482 - Airport West SC - Melbourne Airport via South Centre Rd

SmartBus Route 901

SmartBus Route 901 provides a frequent connection between Broadmeadows Station and Melbourne Airport. The trip takes about 20 minutes, but leave more time during peak times.

SmartBus Route 901 runs between Melbourne Airport and Frankston via Broadmeadows, Roxburgh Park, Epping and Greensborough seven days per week. Buses run every 15 minutes until 9pm weekdays and every 30 minutes on weekends and evenings until midnight (9pm on Sundays).

At Melbourne Airport, all Route 901 departs from the stop outside Terminal 1. This stop is also serviced by routes 478, 479 and 482.

Avalon Airport

Avalon Airport Transfers

Avalon Airport Transfers runs services between Avalon Airport and the Melbourne central business district. The city stop is at Southern Cross Station coach terminal in Spencer Street (Firefly Coaches sales booth).

If pre-booked at least 48 hours in advance, buses will pick-up at CBD Hotels and Werribee RSL.
