  • onboard the bus to a maximum of $20
  • PTV Hub.

You can also top up:

  • online (link opens in a new window)
  • by calling 1800 800 007 6am - midnight daily (allow at least 24 hours for online and call centre top ups to be processed)

You can top up as little as $1 at myki machines and myki retailers. A minimum of $10 is required to top up online and by calling 1800 800 007. At PTV Hub, a minimum of $1 is required to top up and a maximum of $250.

Please note: You should allow at least 24 hours for online and call centre top ups to be processed.

Your top up will be added to your card when you touch on at a myki reader or myki machine after this time.

In some cases myki funds transfers may take a little longer. If you have not received your top up after 48 hours you should contact 1800 800 007 for assistance.

Online top up

The easiest way to top up your myki is online. You won't need to queue at the ticket machine which will save you travel time. You should allow at least 24 hours for an online top up to process. Once your online top up is processed, the amount will be added to your myki the next time you touch on to a myki reader.

Important note

Online and telephone top ups are added to your myki when you touch your card to a myki reader or myki machine. If you do not touch your myki to one of these devices within 90 days of topping up online or via the call centre, your top up is temporarily suspended. You will need to reactivate your top up in order to collect it.

When an online or telephone top up is suspended, any existing value on your myki card is unaffected and your myki remains available to use for travel. If your myki card balance is low, you may need to top up at a myki machine or retail outlet to pay for your next trip.

Infrequent travellers may prefer to top up just before they travel using a myki machine or at a retail outlet. The value is added to the myki card straightaway, so passengers can travel immediately.

Your online or phone top up comes out of suspension at least 24 hours after you:

You will then be able to collect your online or telephone top up when you touch your myki to a myki reader or myki machine.

Auto top up

So that you always have enough myki money for your journey, the myki system offers the option of auto top up. When your myki money balance is running low, it is automatically topped up from your nominated bank account or debit/credit card.

Auto top up is only available for registered myki cards. Find out how to register your myki

  • Using auto top up means you are always ready to travel with your myki.
  • Nominate when your myki tops up and by how much.
  • Auto top up adds myki money to your myki card and then deducts payment from your nominated bank account or debit/credit card.
  • This process means you always have value on your myki and the banking cycle does not prevent you from travelling.

Auto top up is not available for myki pass.

How to set up auto top up

You can set up auto top up via your online myki account if you are linking your myki to a credit card or debit card. When you log in to your online account, the option to “set up auto top up” is visible under “top up myki”.

You must use the Auto Top Up Request Form if you are setting up a direct debit from your bank account:

Please note: we have recently made changes to the myki auto top up form. If you want to set up auto top up with a payment linked to your credit card please set up auto top up online or call 1800 800 007 (6am - midnight daily).

When are payments made from my bank account or credit card?

The system requests direct debit payments from your nominated bank account or debit/credit card in three circumstances:

When you set up auto top up on your myki account

  • This transaction is treated like a regular online top up.
  • The system debits your chosen auto top up amount from your nominated bank account or debit/credit card.
  • At least 24 hours later, your myki receives this amount of myki money when you touch on at a myki reader or use a myki machine.
  • This happens no matter what your current myki money balance is at the time.

When you modify your auto top up settings

  • This transaction is treated like a regular online top up.
  • The system debits your chosen auto top up amount from your nominated bank account or debit/credit card.
  • At least 24 hours later, your myki receives this amount of myki money when you touch on at a myki reader or use a myki machine.
  • This happens no matter what your current myki money balance is at the time.

When your myki automatically tops up

  • Your myki money balance falls below your minimum balance threshold.
  • Your myki receives your chosen auto top up amount of myki money.
  • The system then requests a direct debit payment from your nominated bank account or debit/credit card.
  • This happens no matter what your current myki money balance is at the time.
