Ticket types

A range of tickets are available to suit your travel needs.

Single

Single

Allows one trip from the origin to the destination on the date printed on the ticket (until 3am the following day). No stopovers are permitted.

Off-Peak Single

Allows one trip from the origin to the destination on the date printed on the ticket on off-peak services (until 3am the following day). No stopovers are permitted.

Concession Off-Peak Single tickets are not available on weekends.

Day Return

Allows unlimited travel between the origin and destination on the date printed on the ticket (until 3am the following day). For return travel on different days, buy two single tickets.

Off-Peak Day Return

Allows unlimited travel between the origin and destination on the date printed on the ticket on off-peak services (until 3am the following day). For return travel on different days, buy two Off-Peak Single tickets.

Concession Off-Peak Day Return tickets are not available on weekends.

Weekly

Allow unlimited travel between the origin and destination printed on the ticket for seven consecutive days.

The ticket expires seven days from the start date printed on the ticket. For example, a ticket valid from Tuesday will expire at the end of services for the following Monday (3am on Tuesday).

A weekly ticket used between midnight and 3am must be valid for the previous day.

Monthly

Allow unlimited travel between the origin and destination printed on the ticket for one month.

The ticket expires one month from the start date printed on the ticket. For example, a ticket valid for travel from 15 June will expire at the end of services for 14 July (3am on 15 July). A ticket first valid for travel on 30 or 31 January or on 1 February will expire on 29 February in a leap year, or on 28 February otherwise. A monthly ticket used between midnight and 3am must be valid for the previous day.

Date-to-Date

Allow unlimited travel between the origin and destination printed on the ticket for the number of weeks nominated by the passenger. You can buy full fare and concession tickets for 10 to 52 weeks.

The price of the ticket is the Date-to-Date weekly rate multiplied by the number of weeks required. A Date-to-Date ticket used between midnight and 3am must be valid for the previous day. The ticket expires at 3am on the day following the expiration date on the ticket.

Family Traveller

Allows one adult to take up to two children (aged 16 years and under) free during off-peak times. At all other times, one child can travel free and one child needs to have a valid ticket.  

Family Traveller ticket conditions:

  • only available when at least one child (aged 16 years and under) is accompanied by a fare paying adult (a person aged 17 years or older)
  • allows a maximum of two children per adult
  • concession fares apply for additional children
  • standard fares (peak, off peak, full fare or concession) will apply for additional adults or children (if more than two children per adult)
  • all passengers must travel together for the journey
  • available for travel to/from all V/Line locations excluding travel wholly within Zone 1, Zone 2 or Zone 1+2. 
  • The Family Traveller ticket is not valid on the Mansfield - Mount Buller V/Line coach service.

V/Line group travel

Allows a group of 12 or more people to travel together at a reduced rate. All members of the group must travel together at all times, boarding and alighting at the same locations. Group travel discounts are available for Single, Day Return, Off-Peak Single, and Off-Peak Day Return tickets. The fare charged for the group is the concession fare of the selected ticket type multiplied by the number of passengers. The conditions applicable to the voucher are the same as those for the selected ticket type.

V/Line train services

Group travel of 20 or more people must be arranged at least seven days in advance by telephoning (03) 9619 2338.

V/Line coach services

Group travel of 12 or more people must be arranged at least seven days in advance by telephoning (03) 9619 2338.

Groups may not be able to be accommodated on some services at times of peak demand.
