Work on major transport infrastructure projects may impact the way you travel around Melbourne and across the state.

Public transport and road disruptions

As part of Victoria’s Big Build, major construction has finished on three of the five new Metro Tunnel underground stations and trial operations continue. Work on the West Gate Tunnel Project is also progressing to widen the West Gate Freeway from 8 to 12 lanes.

Road upgrades are in progress on the M80 Ring Road, as part of Big Build Roads. Works continue to remove 110 dangerous and congested level crossings by 2030, while tunnelling is underway on North East Link.

Early work is underway to prepare for tunnelling on Suburban Rail Loop East, while Yarra Trams track renewal will take place on various routes across the tram network.
