Major disruptions on metropolitan trains
Be sure to plan ahead and allow more time for travel during major works this autumn, especially if you’re travelling over the school holiday period.
To avoid delays:
- plan your journey before you travel using Journey planner
- allow extra travel time
- consider alternatives if you can, and travel outside of peak times where possible.

September
Cranbourne and Pakenham lines
- Buses replace trains from Westall to Cranbourne and East Pakenham from 11pm Friday 20 September to 30am Monday 23 September.
October
Sunbury Line
- Buses replace trains between North Melbourne and Sunshine from 11:30pm Friday 4 October to 3am Monday 7 October.
- Buses replace trains between Watergardens and Sunbury from 8:30pm Monday 7 October to 3am Thursday 10 October.
- Buses replace trains between North Melbourne and Sunshine from 1am Saturday 26 October to 3am Monday 28 October.
Lilydale Line
- Buses replace trains between Ringwood and Lilydale from 9pm Friday 11 October to 3am Monday 14 October.
Hurstbridge Line
- Buses replace trains between Heidelberg and Hurstbridge from 8:30pm Friday 4 October to 3am Tuesday 8 October.
- Buses replace trains between Heidelberg and Eltham from 8:30pm Friday 4 October to 3am Friday 25 October.
Pakenham Line
- Buses replace trains between Dandenong and East Pakenham from 10:30pm Friday 4 October to 3am Monday 7 October.
Cranbourne and Pakenham lines
- Passengers interchange at Caulfield to a Frankston line train from 11:30pm Friday 4 October to 3am Monday 7 October.
- Passengers interchange at Caulfield to a Frankston line train from 1:30am Saturday 26 October to 3am Monday 28 October.
Frankston and Stony Point lines
- Buses replace trains from Cheltenham to Frankston and Stony Point from 9:00pm Friday 18 October to 3am Monday 21 October.
November
Sunbury Line
- Buses replace trains between North Melbourne and Sunshine from 1:00am Saturday 30 November to 3am Monday 2 December.
Cranbourne and Pakenham lines
- Passengers interchange at Caulfield to Frankston line train from 1:30am Saturday 30 November to 3am Monday 2 December.
