Major disruptions on metropolitan trains
Be sure to plan ahead and allow more time for travel during major works this autumn, especially if you’re travelling over the school holiday period.
To avoid delays:
- plan your journey before you travel using Journey planner
- allow extra travel time
- consider alternatives if you can, and travel outside of peak times where possible.

September
Cranbourne and Pakenham lines
October
Sunbury Line
- Buses replace trains between North Melbourne and Sunshine from 11:30pm Friday 4 October to last service Sunday 6 October.
- Buses replace trains between Watergardens and Sunbury from 8:30pm Monday 7 October to last service Wednesday 9 October.
- Buses replace trains between North Melbourne and Sunshine from 11pm Friday 25 October to last service Sunday 27 October.
Lilydale Line
- Buses replace trains between Ringwood and Lilydale from 8:30pm Friday 11 October to last service Sunday 13 October.
Hurstbridge Line
- Buses replace trains between Heidelberg and Hurstbridge from 8:30pm Friday 4 October to last service Monday 7 October.
- Buses replace trains between Heidelberg and Eltham from Tuesday 8 October to last service Thursday 24 October.
Pakenham Line
Cranbourne and Pakenham lines
- Passengers interchange at Caulfield to a Frankston line train from 11:30pm Friday 4 October to last service Sunday 6 October.
- Passengers interchange at Caulfield to a Frankston line train from 1am Saturday 26 October to last service Sunday 27 October.
Frankston and Stony Point lines
- Buses replace trains from Cheltenham to Frankston and Stony Point from 8:30pm Friday 18 October to last service Sunday 20 October.
November
Sunbury Line
- Buses replace trains between North Melbourne and Sunshine from 1am Saturday 30 November to last service Sunday 1 December.
Cranbourne and Pakenham lines
- Passengers interchange at Caulfield to Frankston line train from 1am Saturday 30 November to last service Sunday 1 December.
