As part of Victoria’s Big Build, major construction has finished on three of the five new Metro Tunnel underground stations. The project has also entered a new phase known as trial operations, which will continue into next year. Work on the West Gate Tunnel Project is also progressing to widen the West Gate Freeway from 8 to 12 lanes.

Works continue to remove dangerous and congested level crossings, while road upgrades are in progress on the M80 Ring Road and across the south east, as part of Big Build Roads. Tunnelling is now happening on North East Link and work has started to upgrade the Eastern Freeway and M80 Ring Road.

Early work is underway to prepare for tunnelling on Suburban Rail Loop East, while the Department of Transport’s annual maintenance works will take place on the West Gate Bridge.
