Travelling by bus

Extra bus services will run on certain high demand routes to assist people travel to and from New Year’s Eve celebrations.  

48 bus routes will operate after midnight and a further 5 will have their last trip from the city delayed until just after the midnight fireworks.   

The standard night bus network and timetable will be in operation. This includes the following routes:

  • Western Suburbs: 150, 180, 190, 406, 410, 420, 941, 943, 947 and 949.
  • Northern Suburbs: 250, 357, 386, 951, 953 and 959.
  • Eastern Suburbs: 207, 670, 703, 900, 901 (between Ringwood and Dandenong only), 905, 907 and 908
  • Southern Eastern Suburbs and Mornington Peninsula: 630, 693, 703, 788, 833, 900 (between Oakleigh Station and Stud Park only), 978, 979, 981 and 982
  • Routes 207, 905 and 907 servicing the Doncaster, Bulleen and Mitcham areas will run at a 20-minute frequency between midnight and 2:30am reducing to a 30-minute frequency until around 4.30am.
  • Routes 200, 216, 220, 235 and 237 servicing the Bulleen, Sunshine, Footscray and Fishermen’s Bend areas, which usually have their last outbound trip departing the CBD around midnight, will be rescheduled 30 minutes later to at 17am and 12.40am.

Mornington Peninsula

To support the increased seasonal demand on the Mornington Peninsula, Ventura’s route 788 between Frankston and Sorrento will run every 30 minutes, rather than hourly between 8pm and 3am.

Western Suburbs

Limited additional routes in the Western Suburbs will have extended operating hours. Routes 402, 404, 444, 454, 471, 472 and 949 will all have extra trips until around 2am.

As well as supporting the people expected to attend events in Melbourne’s CBD, additional bus services will be provided for people attending events at Footscray Park, Geelong’s waterfront and Williamstown Cenotaph.

Route 402 provides a connection from Carlton Gardens through North Melbourne and Kensington. Routes 404 and 472 pass nearby the Footscray Park celebration event.

Routes 471 and 472 provide options to leave from the popular Williamstown firework viewing area. Routes 444, 454 and 949 provide connections from railway stations at Rockbank, Cobblebank, Melton and Williams Landing.

Bellarine Peninsula and Surf Coast

To support the increased seasonal demand on the Bellarine Peninsula and Surf Coast and New Year’s Eve events in Geelong, the McHarry Routes 30, 31, 42, 53, 55 and 60 will have additional inbound and outbound services.

These routes service the following areas: Armstrong Creek, Barwon Heads, Belmont, Drysdale, Grovedale, Newcomb, Ocean Grove, Portarlington, South Geelong, St Leonards, Torquay and Whittington.
