Public transport for Melbourne Cup Public Holiday: Tuesday 5 November 2024

Public transport services will operate to a public holiday timetable on the Melbourne Cup Public Holiday, Tuesday 5 November.

Before you travel

We strongly encourage you to register your myki. With a registered myki you can protect your myki balance if the card is lost or stolen, check your travel history and manage multiple myki cards in the one account

Plan your journey using Journey planner and check Disruptions for service changes that may affect your journey.

Ticketing

On public holidays, your daily myki fare is capped at $7.20 ($3.60 for concessions and seniors), allowing unlimited travel all day.

Note: While some concession holders enjoy free travel on weekends, this benefit does not apply to public holiday timetables. On public holidays, normal myki fare caps are in effect for all passengers, including seniors.

Metropolitan train icon Metropolitan train

Metropolitan train services will run to a Saturday timetable with additional services available to and from Flemington Racecourse.

Night Network services will not run.

Tram icon Metropolitan tram

Tram services will run to a Saturday timetable with the last tram approximately one hour earlier than the normal Saturday timetable. Additional services will operate on Route 57a.

Night Network services will not run.

Bus icon Metropolitan and regional buses

Metropolitan Bus Services

Metropolitan buses will run to a Saturday timetable, with the following exceptions.

  • Routes 201, 202, 301, 401, and 601 will run on a weekday timetable.
  • Routes 548 and 551 will run to a special timetable.
  • The following bus routes will not run: 407, 414, 415, 490, 503, 506, 526, 536, 538, 549, 550, 558, 559, 671, 672, 677, 681, 682.
  • FlexiRide services in Croydon, Lilydale, and Mooroolbark will not run.

Regional Bus Services

Services may vary based on the operator. The following routes will operate on Tuesday 5 November, with adjusted timetable for the Melbourne Cup Public Holiday.

  • Bendigo (including Strathfieldsaye)
  • Ballarat Transit Service
  • Bacchus Marsh Town Service - Routes 433 & 434
  • Geelong and Bellarine Peninsula services
  • Kyneton
  • Latrobe Valley Transit Service – except routes 6 & 7
  • Portland Town Service
  • Wallan Town Service
  • Warragul Town Service and Garfield to Traralgon
  • Warrnambool (including Port Fairy)

Local networks operating a Sunday timetable:

  • Mildura Transit Service
  • Merbein – Mildura City via Seventeenth St
  • Merbein – Mildura City via Eleventh St
  • Red Cliffs – Mildura City via Red Cliffs

Intertown services operating a Saturday timetable:

  • Ararat – Hopkins Correctional Centre
  • Boolarra – Churchill
  • Cowes – Wonthaggi
  • Bright – Omeo via Hotham Heights
  • Genoa – Mallacoota via Gipsy Point
  • Heathcote – Bendigo
  • Paynesville – Bairnsdale via Paynesville
  • Stawell – Halls Gap
  • Traralgon – Wonthaggi via Inverloch, Leongatha, Mirboo Nth

Intertown services operating a Sunday timetable:

  • Coronet Bay – Corinella – Grantville
  • Grantville – Coronet Bay via Grantville
  • Yarram – Traralgon via Gormandale

Intertown service operating weekend timetable:

  • Inverloch & Cowes to Wonthaggi via Anderson & Ventnor

Intertown services operating a weekday timetable:

  • Albury – Myrtleford via Wodonga
  • Albury – Beechworth via Baranduda
  • Kyneton Town Centre – Trentham
  • Wodonga Town Network

All other services may not run. To plan ahead, check timetables online or call 1800 800 007 before you travel.

Night Network services will not run.

V/Line trains will run to a Saturday timetable. Scheduled V/Line coach services will run to an altered Saturday timetable.

Passengers who have already made a reservation to travel on Tuesday 5 November on a long-distance train or coach will be contacted directly by V/Line to advise of any changes.

Night Network services will not run.
