Public Transport Ticketing - Contactless Payment Trials Eligibility Criteria

This guide confirms the active arrangements for contactless payment trial/s, as required by the Victorian Fare and Ticketing Conditions and approved by the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP).

The trial/s in this guide support the delivery of the Future Public Transport Ticketing Program.

Eligibility criteria

Eligible trial location and mode Wangaratta local town buses
Eligible services or routes  
  • 401 Wangaratta – West End  
  • 402 Wangaratta – Yarrunga  
  • 403 Wangaratta – Yarrawonga Road  
  • 404 Wangaratta – Yarrunga  
Eligible fare type  Full fare only. 2-hour fare ($2.80) and daily fare ($5.60).
Ineligible fare types  
  • Passengers travelling on concession fares.  
  • Passengers continuing their journey on V/Line.    
Eligible payment methods   Tap and go (contactless) payments using an Australian-issued Mastercard or Visa credit card or debit card, including digital wallets on smartphones or smartwatches.
Ineligible payment methods  myki cards, V/Line tickets (including E-tickets) American Express and other card schemes, pre-paid Visa and Mastercard or any cards issued by international financial institutions. 

More information about this trial

This trial commenced on 25 November 2024 and will run for up to six months. 

The purpose is to trial how well the new readers and payment options perform on part of the public network. Specifically, DTP is trialling:  

  • the installation of new readers and routers on buses;
  • bus and depot staff training and operations; 
  • use of tap and go payments by full fare passengers; and
  • back-office and financial reconciliation processes. 

Fallons Bus Services is the trial partner.
