What's the purpose of this consultation?
We want to hear from locals and Deakin University students to understand how they use bus services and what would encourage them to use buses more—including where, when and how they would like to travel.
This feedback will help shape the way the future bus networks in the area are planned, ensuring it caters to the needs of the community.
Haven't changes to buses to Deakin University already been announced?
Yes. Changes were announced in mid-May 2022 to routes 903, 733 and 767. However, this consultation is seeking feedback more broadly about buses that service Deakin University and surrounding areas.
What changes were announced in May 2022?
The changes seek to improve access to Deakin University by rerouting SmartBus Route 903. Other routes including 201, 733 and 767 will have frequency upgrades to boost services travelling to Deakin University.
Community feedback from this consultation will help refine the changes that have already been announced and inform any future changes on the network.
Are any bus routes changing now?
There are no changes to bus routes at this time. The community will be notified in advance of any changes to services.
Who are you seeking feedback from?
The survey will seek feedback from residents, students and businesses from Mont Albert and Box Hill North in the north and down to Ashwood in the south, east just beyond Middleborough Road (Blackburn South/Mt Waverley) and west to Highfield Road in Camberwell.
Is there face-to-face consultation?
No. Consultation is online only. Face-to-face consultation will be considered for future consultations.
What else was announced in the 2022/23 State Budget to improve bus services across the state?
Victoria's bus network plays an important role within an integrated public transport network, connecting Victorians to employment, education, healthcare and other modes of transport.
We are continuing to improve the state’s bus network in line with Victoria’s Bus Plan to better meet demand, improve accessibility and performance, and deliver value for money.
We’re investing $109 million in the State Budget to improve local bus services in growth areas, implement bus reform, improve accessibility and customer outcomes and to get students to school.
We’re improving accessibility on the bus network by introducing wheelchair containment on 30 buses, and upgrading 80 bus stops with seats, shelters and real time information displays.
Over $25 million is being invested in new school bus services to get students in metropolitan and regional growth areas to school.
New bus routes will service rapidly growing populations in suburbs including Box Hill, Armstrong Creek, Sunbury, Diggers Rest, Donnybrook, Craigieburn, Gisborne, Cranbourne West and Narre Warren, providing better connections to train stations, education and shopping centres.
New weekend services are being introduced in key locations on the network including Kilmore.
We’re also getting on with building the new Bulleen Park & Ride, with funding toward operations, maintenance and bus service changes for the facility, ensuring all buses are able to start taking passengers when it opens.
