Sounds like you’re keen to change up your commute. If you’re down to save on parking and give gridlock the swerve, head to campus by tram, train or bus – or a little combo.

La Trobe Uni, Bundoora

  • Your nearest tram stop is Plenty Rd on the Route 86.
  • There are so many buses to get you to campus, like the 250, 301, 350, 548, or the 566.
  • The train will get you to Reservoir Station, where you can catch the 301 bus for a quick connection to campus (only runs during semester) or the 561 bus. From Heidelberg Station, you can catch the 551.

Victoria Uni, Footscray Park

  • Your nearest tram stop is on Droop St for the 82.
  • The best bus to get to campus is the 406 and 409 along Ballarat Rd, or the 472 along Farnsworth Ave.
  • Your nearest station is Footscray Station, and then the free shuttle bus will take you all the way to campus – win!

Swinburne Uni, Hawthorn

  • Tram 16 is the best to get you to Swinburne.
  • The best bus to get to campus is the 624 along Auburn Rd.
  • The closest train station is Glenferrie, but you can also walk to campus from Hawthorn or Auburn stations.

Deakin Uni, Waurn Ponds

  • There are plenty of buses to choose from including the 1, 40, 41, 42 and 43.
  • The train will get you to Waurn Ponds Station, and campus is a 30min stroll from there.

RMIT CBD

  • Most north-south trams run along Swanston Street (routes 1, 3, 5, 6, 8, 16, 64, 67 and 72). The best buses to get to campus are the 200 and the 207.
  • Students are spoilt for choice, with 7 train lines stopping at Melbourne Central Station just a short walk away.

What’s the deal with fares?

Your fare depends on where you get on and off – and whether you’re travelling in a metro or regional area. But no matter how far you travel in one day, or how many trips you take, you’ll never pay more than $10.60. Find out more about fares and fare caps here.
