Datasets

We have a number of datasets available to the public as part of a commitment to creating open access to our data and information.

We encourage developers to use the datasets to produce digital products to assist users of public transport.

All PTV Datasets can be found on the DataVic website.

Victorian public transport data

GTFS

A GTFS format of PTV’s public transport data is now available on the DataVic website.

GTFS Data is also used by Google Maps.

Metro Trains GTFS Realtime – Trip Updates

The dataset contains Metro Trains Trip Updates and is now available on the DataVic website. The Trip Updates feed provides information about the arrival and departure times for the stops of a trip.

Metro Buses GTFS Realtime – Trip Updates

The dataset contains Metro Bus Trip Updates and is now available on the DataVic website. The Trip Updates feed provides information about the arrival and departure times for the stops of a trip.

Metro Trains GTFS Realtime – Vehicle Positions

The dataset contains Metro Trains Vehicle Positions and is now is available on the DataVic website. Vehicle position is used to provide information on the location and occupancy status of a vehicle.

Metro Trains GTFS Realtime – Service Alerts

The dataset contains Metro Trains Service Alerts and is now available on the DataVic website. Delays are delivered via Trip Updates, whereas cancellations are published via Service Alerts. For initial release of Service Alerts, only cancellations will be published.

PTV Timetable API

Version 3 of the PTV Timetable, documented in Swagger, was released on 20 October 2016.

The PTV Timetable API provides dynamic access to the raw timetable data for all metropolitan and regional train, tram and bus services in Victoria (including real-time data for metropolitan train, tram and bus services and some areas of the regional bus network).

Train

PTV Train Corridor Centreline

Train Corridor Centreline depicts a spatial object (polyline) representing the centre of a series of tracks ie multiple parallel tracks are represented as a single line. A segment name is attributed to the centreline.

PTV Metro Train Station

Metro Train Station depicts a spatial object (point) representing the locations. Each station has attributes that describe stop ID, station name, latitude/longitude, ticket zone and routes using the stop.

PTV Regional Train Station

Regional Train Station depicts a spatial object (point) representing the locations. Each station has attributes that describe stop ID, station name, latitude/longitude, ticket zone and routes using the stop.

PTV Train Station Bike Storage

Bike Storage depicts a spatial object (point) representing the location of bike storage at metropolitan railway stations. Each bike storage point has attributes that describe the station name, locker type and capacity.

PTV Train Station Car Park

Train Station Car Park depicts a spatial object (polygon) representing the outline of car parks at metropolitan railway stations. Each train car park has attributes that describe the station name and commuter capacity.

PTV Train Station Platforms

Train Station Platform depicts a spatial object (polygon) which represents the outline of a train platform. Each platform has attributes that describe the station name and platform number.

PTV Train Track Centreline

Train Track Centreline depicts a spatial object (polyline) representing the centre of two rails (two rails make up a train track). Each centreline has attributes that describe the facility name, rail gauge and electrification status.

Tram

PTV Metro Tram Route

Metro Tram Route depicts a spatial object (polyline) representing metropolitan tram routes. Each object represents a unique route variation. Each object has attributes that describe route, trip headsign (direction), route length, first stop, last stop, number of stops and operator name.

PTV Metro Tram Stop

Metro Tram Stop depicts a spatial object (point) representing the locations. Each stop has attributes that describe stop ID, station name, latitude/longitude, ticket zone and routes using the stop.

PTV Tram Track Centreline

Tram Track Centreline depicts a spatial object (polyline) representing the centre of two rails (two rails make up a track). Each centreline has attributes that describe the facility name.

Bus/Coach

PTV Metro Bus Route

Metro Bus Route depicts a spatial object (polyline) representing metropolitan bus routes. Each object represents a unique route variation. Each object has attributes that describe route, trip headsign (direction), route length, first stop, last stop, number of stops and operator name.

PTV Metro Bus Stop

Metro Bus Stop depicts a spatial object (point) representing the locations. Each stop has attributes that describe stop ID, station name, latitude/longitude, ticket zone and routes using the stop.

PTV Regional Bus Route

SkyBus Route depicts a spatial object (polyline) representing SkyBus routes. Each object represents a unique route variation. Each object has attributes that describe route, trip headsign (direction), route length, first stop, last stop, number of stops and operator name.

PTV SkyBus Stop

SkyBus Stop depicts a spatial object (point) representing the locations. Each stop has attributes that describe stop ID, station name, latitude/longitude, ticket zone and routes using the stop.
