Try Before You Ride

Inclusive transport for all Victorians

The Victorian Government wants to make sure everyone can use public transport easily. Our Try Before You Ride events are here to help people feel more comfortable using trains, buses, and trams. These events are for everyone, including those with accessibility needs, parents with kids, and older people.

Upcoming Events in 2025

Ballarat Station

10:00am – 12:30pm on Wednesday 30 April 2025

Customers will board the 10:44am V/Line service to Wendouree and then return to Ballarat Station on the 11:58am service.

It is held in partnership with the City of Ballarat.

Previous Events in 2024

Bendigo Station

Wednesday 23 October & Saturday 26 October 2024.

In partnership with V/Line and the City of Greater Bendigo.

Geelong Station

Thursday 28 November 2024.

In partnership with V/Line.

Event Features

Participants had the opportunity to experience various modes of transport, including:

• V/Line V/Locity train
• Accessible coach
• Wheelchair-accessible taxi
• Travellers Aid provided assistance and information about their services.

Southern Cross Event – May 2024

Participants had the opportunity to:

• Practice getting on and off trains, trams, buses, and accessible taxis
• Learn about accessibility features and improvements
• Speak with customer service staff regarding public transport travel, safety, and accessibility
• Participate in site tours of Southern Cross Station with customer service staff.

Travellers Aid provided accessibility services on the day:

• Mobility assistance
• Personal care
• Quiet space
• Translation services (upon request).

In partnership with the Department of Transport and Planning, Safe Transport Victoria, and Southern Cross Station.
