Information for students
Find out more about how to apply for, travel with, and renew an International Student Travel Pass.
What is an International Student Travel Pass myki card?
An International Student Travel Pass myki card gives eligible international students discounted public transport.
When you first apply for an International Student Travel Pass, you’ll receive a special myki card with your photo and details on the back. Your International Student Travel Pass is loaded on this card, giving you either 90 days, 180 days or one year of discounted travel. When your International Student Travel Pass expires you can renew it with the same myki card.
Am I eligible?
To be eligible, you must be an international student studying a full-time diploma, advanced diploma, bachelor or associate degree at:
- Auscanus Institute of Australia
- Australian Catholic University
- Australian College of Applied Professions
- Australian Engineering College

The International Student Travel Pass doesn’t apply to these students. New Zealand students are eligible for the International Student Travel Pass.
Will I save money with an International Student Travel Pass?
You’ll save 50 per cent on the price of a 90-day, 180-day or 365-day myki Pass by buying an International Student Travel Pass.
You can save money with an International Student Travel Pass even if you’re not in Melbourne for a whole year. If you travel a lot in Zone 1+2 (for example, for study, work and going out with friends), an International Student Travel Pass will probably cost less than topping up with myki Money.
Use the calculator below to see how much you could save (please note the calculator is for 365-day passes only):

What zones can I travel in on my International Student Travel Pass?
Students studying in metropolitan Melbourne or regional Victoria can purchase a state-wide International Student Travel Pass, for the price of a Zone 1+2 pass, which allows unlimited travel on bus, train and tram across Victoria.
Metropolitan Melbourne students studying at an institution in Zone 2 can choose to purchase a Zone 2-only pass. Regional students can also choose to purchase a pass that only covers the zone in which their institution is located. Students with these passes can top up with myki Money if they want to travel outside these zones.
My institution isn’t listed. Can I still buy an International Student Travel Pass?
No. You’re only eligible if your institution is participating in the program.
Interested institutions can learn more about International Student Travel Pass.
When does my International Student Travel Pass expire?
Your International Student Travel Pass expires either 90 days, 180 days or 365 days from the date you first touch on, depending on which pass type you buy.
My International Student Travel Pass has expired. Do I need to buy a new myki card?
No. When your International Student Travel Pass expires, you can renew it for another 90 days, 180 days or 365 days if you’re still an eligible student. A new International Student Travel Pass will be loaded onto the myki card you already have.
If you’ve finished studying but want to keep travelling in Melbourne, keep your myki card and top up with myki Money or a myki Pass. It will work as a full fare myki card.
How do I renew my International Student Travel Pass?

- Go to the International Student Travel Pass website and log into your account.
